ABOUT THE INNKEEPERS

Red Dog Inn is the fulfillment of a dream for MaryKaye & Don, and our love and partnership - O’shells - is the driving force behind Red Dog Inn.

We met in the Midwest in 1976 and moved to Seattle in 1986. In the late 1990’s after celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary in the Sol Duc area of the Olympic National Park, we began to dream of having an inn in this area we always felt drawn towards.  We wanted to help others enjoy the beauty of this area as much as we did and started looking for land to purchase.  We began by building ourselves a little house on 5 acres in the Crescent/Salt Creek area.  We were then fortunate enough to purchase an additional adjacent 20 acres of forest land and we started planning for Red Dog Inn.

One of the things we love about Red Dog Inn's location is that its elevation is high enough to boast the most magnificent views of Baldy Ridge and Storm King from every area.  Combined with the abundant wildlife (in the air and on land), it is truly a view to behold.

Our only problem was, how do two social introverts run a bed and breakfast?!?  The solution came in the design of the inn.  And after opening, closing, and re-opening Red Dog Inn in 2020, we also better learned how to operate the inn so that our guests feel free to enjoy this beautiful house and the surrounding area.

ABOUT THE INN

Our home was specifically designed and built to be a bed and breakfast/ inn and meet the needs of our guests.  We enlisted local architects, engineers, and contractors to build Red Dog Inn in 2007 and opened our doors to guests in January 2020.  It works for our guests, and it works for us because:

Red Dog Inn is LARGE

It consists of 8,300 square feet across four levels, two of which are dedicated to guests. There are three guest rooms and extensive public areas:

  • View Room on the top floor has wonderful views (hence the name) and is a great place to relax, read, talk, play a game, stretch out, or sip a little wine

  • Lounge, serving as guest kitchenette and dining area. Lounge has full refrigerator/freezer, sink, microwave, toaster oven, and toaster, as well as a stocked dry pantry and kitchen & dining wares

  • Sun Room, offering a great outdoor space that is protected from the weather. Perfect for planning your next hike or enjoying a snack

We live in a separate apartment within the inn with our two dogs: Carnie, a Vizsla (the "red dog" of Red Dog Inn) and Dharma, our lovable moppet mutt. The dogs are kept out of the guest areas and away from guests at all times.  Even though we love dogs (and cats), Red Dog Inn does not currently accept pets as guests.

Every guest room has its own private bathroom

That’s right, no sharing.  Each room has a full bath with shower, toilet and sink.  The Suite has a large soaking tub, complete with a view of the mountains, in lieu of a standard bathtub.

Every guest room has wonderful views of the Olympic Mountains

Windows face south towards Baldy Ridge, one of the peaks in the Olympic National Park.

The location is secluded, but trails and town are within easy reach

The property is very quiet, with no neighbors to be seen. The nearest trail head is just a 10-minute drive, and downtown Port Angeles is 25 minutes away.

We’re about as unpretentious as it gets

We’re not about Victorian architecture or fancy mattresses or antique furniture.  We’re about giving you a really comfortable, clean, safe and fun place to stay while you’re enjoying the great outdoors of the Olympic Peninsula.

Our schedule is very relaxed

Check in starts at 4pm with check out  at 12pm.  If you need early check in or late check out, let us know and we'll try to accommodate.  Shared and high use areas are cleaned and disinfected daily around 11am.  We do not offer daily room service.  If you need something, let us know and we'll deliver it to your door.

Eating is on your schedule

Speaking of unpretentious, we offer a 'grab and go' continental breakfast in the Lounge that can be eaten at the time you desire.  Coffee is always available in the Lounge or you can request a coffee maker and make your own in your room.

We’re here if you need us, otherwise go have fun

If you have questions or need anything, please let us know.  Otherwise, have a great time exploring the natural wonders of the North Olympic Peninsula. Let us know if you need any suggestions.

Lots of love from our guests

Our guests and friends have recognized our efforts with words of thanks and praise, as well as votes that helped Red Dog Inn become the #1 Best Bed & Breakfast and Finalist for the Best Weekend Getaway in 2023 Best of Olympic Peninsula awards.

Thank you!
